In
January the monthly average value of the U.S. dollar appreciated against two of
the three major currencies we track: 5.1% against Canada’s loonie and 6.1%
relative to the euro; the greenback depreciated (0.9%) unexpectedly against the
yen. On a trade-weighted index basis, the dollar strengthened by 2.1% against a
basket of 26 currencies.
