Overall
construction
spending in the United
States increased by 0.1 percent during December,
to a seasonally adjusted and annualized rate (SAAR )
of $930.5 billion -- the highest level since April 2009. The increase derived entirely
from an $8.8 billion (2.6 percent) rise in private residential spending. Public
construction spending declined by $6.2 billion (2.3 percent) while the private
non-residential component fell by $2.1 billion (0.7 percent).
