The
monthly average U.S.-dollar price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil edged
up by $2.14 (+3.9%), to $56.95 per barrel in September. The increase occurred within
the context of a record-strong U.S. dollar (broad trade-weighted index basis), the
lagged impacts of a 138,000 barrel-per-day (BPD) rise in the amount of petroleum
products supplied during July (to 20.7 million BPD), and a levelling-off in accumulated
oil stocks (September average: 419 million barrels).
